Inspirations: Sweet Spaces

October 11, 2010

When I talk to new planners/designers and wannabe floral designers, a few have asked where I get my inspiration.  Of course the obvious is from fashion, culture, travels, etc.  They seem like very typical answers and I wanted to take time to elaborate.    I get immense joy from seeing beautiful things whether it's something old or something new but most of the time I have huge respect for others who also appreciate the art of beautiful objects.

Harrod's Laduree Shop
One thing that inspires me is food and pastries.  It's amazing that a tiny little dish of ice cream can take me away from the mundane or a tiny little French macaron(Laduree's are famous) can make me grin from ear to ear.

So it's no surprise that I'm going to show you what one of my inspiration is - the beautiful tea room and brasserie ,Laduree at Harrods in London.
Laduree at Harrod's - even the boxes are pretty!

The beauty, simplicity, and elegance of this candy/pastry shop aspires me to want to get my sketch pad out and start designingescort  tables, wedding floral pieces, place card tables, and dessert rooms.  I can go on and on...but I just wanted to say - find what makes you smile and let that be inspiring.  It doesn't have to be something grand.  Whatever makes your mouth water is a good starting point.

At the upcoming Wedding Floral Academy in November, I will talk more about inspiration as we all need that when we are designing weddings.
